Thanks a lot Adrie, I read it all with great interest. Whether the 
Belgians especially suffer from illusions I doubt, all nations wants to be 
the best and bravest (the Germans harbored the illusion of losing 
WW1 because they were "stabbed in the back")  I just find that 
particular event fascinating, not because the fortress was overrun, had 
it withstood it would have been just as monumental. What's most 
fascinating is that Europe - once the ground of so many conflicts - has 
found peace. I believe through the EU, but maybe some still greater 
historical context is behind it.

Understandably.  I just wondered why that fortress was so crucial, but I 
guess the border between Holland-Belgium-Germany and 
Luxembourg was fortified too, and more difficult for motorized attack.

Me too, I buy too many history magazines and documentary films.
