A pattern of maximum diffusion is entropy, the heat death or the final fate of the universe. Chaos is indeed the mother of all patterns but there is nothing before the Big Bang. No patterns of any kind, no time, no space no anything that can be spoken of. The Big Bang takes us back to an instant so brief that it defies our ability to measure time. Time itself begins in that instant and before it nothing can be spoken of only speculated upon but not taken seriously. well, Krimel, thanks for understanding that chaos is a pattern of maximum diffusion. It was all ther before the big-bang , Krimel, as chaos before the big-bang is the representation of ENERGY,.......AND since Einstein E= mc2, not only all ENERGY but all MASS was present before the moment of the big bang as in energy equals mass2. you really outsmarted yourself on this issue , Albert, i mean , coming back after all this time to tell us that E=mc2 was wrong all the way..... seriously Krimel, probably you have been reading about the entropic principle,the entropical engine is only possible to inflate or deflate the universe, if and when all energy and mass (equal) were there all the time. so the entropic inflation/deflation is a recurrent pattern, it never ends in Time. Time , Krimel, was always there , even before the big bang, and if it was not you are in fact living in a static universe, or so to speak the big bang happened in a halted engine, and than you are living in a metaphysikal universe. so maximum diffusion, = just before the big bang, containing all energy and mass. I do not try to outsmart you ,krimel , i think you are very intelligent , i think for the story on Pirsig you can outsmart me. but you aint on physiks. But as i can see some interest for physiks , and entropy, try to read some issue's on c/p violation, very interesting for you. its going back to the earlyest universe in time.
