Bodvar
I saw in the news this morning that the party that wanted to divide
Belgium had got the most votes, if they have majority?? Anyway, so
the next thing will be Adrie living in "Flandernia" next to "Vallonia" ...or.
And you Flemish-speaking are the disgustingly rich who don't want to
share with the poor French-speakers ;-) Strange thing this Belgian
issue, Brussels the center of EU and the NATO headquarters, one
would believe you to be the most Euro-conscious (not the valuta)
people of this continent and then proves to be the most secessionist.
Well, language and money are - next to religion - the strongest
uniting/repulsive forces.

reply,
This is indeed a very strange country, Bodvar , its very difficult to explain
towards other people.

In fact , its a kingdom, but the king lost all of his power during ww2, its a
symbolic remain.
we have 3 goverments, 1 Flemisch, 1 Wallon,( French-speaking) and 1 capitol
city goverment .
The Capitol city is also for the major part French speaking.

We have a constitutional law covering the land, but, local laws, in the
Flemisch part as well in the
Wallon part are allowed, as long as they are not in conflict with the
constitutional laws.
Furthermore , Brussels has its own goverment , same system.
And on top of the pyramid of course, Europe, same system, all local laws are
allowed if not in conflict with
constitutional laws.
AND, there is a minor group Germanspeaking people, about between 75000,having
ministers and senators of their own

The major problem for this seperatism-issue is historical, we Flemisch people
do not get along well with the french.
They call the flemisch language "Barking", and even when they are capable of
speaking it , they refuse to do so.
Most of them master Flemisch.

The financial issue
Historical problem also, the solidarity-principle used here, dates from ww2,
and is held on until today.
this is what the separatists want to let go off, they want to leave it.
French people are living of it mainly, for example, they make about 50 % off
the population, eating 70 % of the healthbudget.
The goverment of the Wallon part refuses to give insight in the use of their
budget. this is the main issue.

Greetz, Adrie
