Dave asked the other Dave (dmb):
Have YOU read it? [Goldberg's book] I doubt it. Don't bother, given you have
already made your mind up based on your pre-existing condition and the "L"
filter your computer.
dmb says:
No, and I don't have it on my "to read" list either. I've read enough of his
work to know where he's coming from. I know and trust some of the people who
say his book is not to be taken seriously. Eric Alterman, for example, has a
Ph.D. in history AND works as an analyst of the media. He was among the many
negative reviewers of Goldberg's book. I've also seen Goldberg interviewed
about his book several times. (I only have a bachelor's degree in History but I
did my senior thesis on Hitler, so I do have SOME idea of what I'm talking
about here.) I did not see a single interview in which Goldberg didn't
embarrass himself by making ridiculous claims. Even John Stewart, to cite one
such example, knew his history better than Goldberg.
And he's just a comedian!
To be fair, John Stewart is pretty funny too.
It's not ideological bias, Dave. I'm not trashing his book because he's a
right-winger. I'm trashing because it's stupid. Honestly.
