I'm not quite sure how to read this layout, but:
Toolmaking, although biologists take it as evidence of advanced
development, from a metaphysical viewpoint (which is what
Pirsig was after) is like nest- or dam- building, so on the biological
level.  The same holds for sub-human "social" activity.
I think the more interesting question is what level human language is on.
