I see a need for a "0" option in this (my) ongoing dialogue. A bit o' the ole 'meta"perspective on who I am, what I'm doing. How the whole efforted enterprise is going.
By which I'd say, 'my" perspective on the MoQ. My pov. And specifically, this aspect of it - the CA. The Copleston Annotations. I like the sequential numbering, and the ongoing enterprise of it. Taking it a bit at a time, and going forward only when it feels right. But also, a stepping back, and dealing with the process as a whole. Asking "is this any good?" To me, THAT, and mainly that little "step-back and ask",that knowing that I won't get lost in infinite recursion, is the pragmatic value of the MoQ. So when you see 'CA 0", instead of a sequenced number, you know I'm gonna deal with discussion about my discussion. Either coming from some of you (Dan and dmb) or my own head (John). I would like to explain something, one and all. "CA" stands for something a bit beyond Copleston Annotations. It stands for California. I stand for California. I understand and explicate the unspeakable patterns of my biosphere. It's my job. Somebody has to do it, and my biome elected me. Now, that's not easy to explain, and I don't mean that I'm the only one. By no means! In fact, just the opposite. It is by comparing my experience with other's words that I am able to transmit the words I think are relevant to the biome. However, I know that I'm different from most on this list, but I don't think that obviates my value. in fact, just the opposite. But in my ongoing dialogue with Pirsig and Copleston, I want it made clear to one and all, that I'm no expert. I'm just a guy from California expressing the California point of view. I realized this was a broader perspective, got my first whiff of 'something" else than I understood, when I first read Royce's history of California, where he talks about the classical side of understanding this organism/environment phenomena, that I sorta gulped up from Gary Snyder in a romantic way with his talk of bioregionalism and deep ecology. But the most amazing thing I've ever read about this unique California perspective, is a thesis on my desktop, that I musta downloaded or got from Rudy or maybe somebody suggested it to me. And it blew me away. I read it to my wife and daughter last night, and even they were interested. Well, Emily was. Lu kept saying "And what does this have to do with anything?" Lu's a hard sell. Anyway, It started the history of California, with the fall of Troy and showed how the term came into being. The mythic source of the great war between paganism and christianity. And how in the battle over Constantinople, a magical island appears, a pagan land ruled by an Amazon Queen, Calipha. That's as far as common history takes us. Chytry takes us much deeper into the myth, and brings it current to the modern age and ties together many interesting aspects of this island, this "Mount of pleasure" - it's persian root - Kari-farn - is derived from the same roots as Persian "Qaf" especially in showing some magical aspects of it's entry into the union. See, California's entry into the Union, coincided with the end of the mexican america war - naturally, It was Mexico til then. But the Mexican war ended in 1848, and something very interesting happened in 1849 - the year California was being considered by congress - gold was discovered by Europeans, in a way that immediately transformed this sleepy mount of pleasure, this far away island, into an economic and industrial hub for the whole west. The age was expanding, industry was expanding, and the discovery of all that gold, all of a sudden, meant that the world had availability liquidity and suddeness, like never before. In fact, Chytry points out, it was the phenomena of California that inspired a Times Columnist named Karl Marx, to start critiquing this new force of Capitalism. Lots of interesting stuff like that. So when I say this is MY point of view, I'm letting you know "CA" Point of view means more than it seems on the surface. Lu's making me leave, now so I can't proofread, so sorry for any mistakes.
