A man went to work in a primitive African village and became ill. He went to
the local witch doctor, who said evil spirits had invaded his body. The man
asked how the witch doctor knew this and the latter replied, “You’re sick,
aren’t you?” He then said some chants and sent the man home.
The man’s condition didn’t improve, so he sought out a Western doctor. She did
some blood tests and said germs had invaded his body. The man asked how she
knew this and she showed him some slides of his blood containing the West Nile
virus under a microscope.Later the man was climbing a tree; slipped, fell and
injured his arm. He rushed to the witch doctor, who said, “Ah, you were
approaching too close to the evil spirits. They don’t like that, so they
pushed you to the ground.”
“Why do you think that”, the man asked.
“You fell, didn’t you?” Then he set the break and immobilized the arm.
The man was worried though; so again he sought out the Western doctor. She
examined the arm and saw it was well attended to. “How did the break happen?”,
she asked. The man told her. “Yes”, she commented, “the earth will pull you
down every chance it gets.”
“How do you know that?”, the man asked.
“You fell, didn’t you?”
