Now, I see it a little differently. Despite my mild manner, I see a present threat. I see a lot of similarities between our current government and the national socialist party of the '30s. I see the brown shirts as labor thugs. Government control of education through the loan process. A compliant press which dares not be wrong with their choice. And so on and on. And I ask myself why do I see it that way? My father who grew up in Holland, watched Germany change, and then fought in the Dutch underground, sees it the same way. Maybe it is genetic.
Well apart from the similarities (and I'm not talking about WW2, that was an aberration of one, Adolf), I see a duty to my family and the future I will leave. Sure, I could sit on the couch and snarf some righteous idealism, tell people how we should all be, but I know that I know nothing. Swept along by history. And I don't care to get into religion, which is politics to the extreme. I have no judgement on how people live their own lives. Live and let live. What I do know is that people are in general followers, looking for the next leader to tell them what to do. Put two people in a room and they will get along, divide them into camps and they will fight against each other to the death. Every religion has its fanatics, Christians are no better, but most people stand by and watch and wonder. They are not to blame. Man is not aggressive in nature, that is until someone with a silver tongue needs to prove himself and gather his followers. Then all bets are off. I worry about what will become. I want things to stay as they are. I am not unhappy with the state of the world and want to change it. All I care about is my family. Perhaps I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.
