Hi David I look at the story as more a parable than anything else. There is no "Ed" although the character is based on people I have known and things that have really happened. Truth be told though, I am not great with people. I think that's why I enjoy working with machines. If the motorcycle shop actually made money, I wouldn't have to scratch around in real estate. But it doesn't and I do. The funny thing is, in real estate, I pretend that I know what I am doing. I put on a nice suit with a silk tie and fine shirt and dress shoes to match, and people actually believe that I know what I am doing. I look the part. But I don't know any more than a person who spends a few hours searching the MLS for property. Still, I've learned to read people and know in a few minutes who will work with me and who won't and I act accordingly. But it is all a crap shoot... who will buy, who will sell. The worst part of being a real estate Broker is that I see the bad side of people... how they lie and seek to manipulate others. Everybody does it... buyers and sellers alike. And this economy only exacerbates that.
