Marsha replied:
The quote's meaning might be quite obvious within a Jamesian discussion, but
needs an explanation relating them to the MoQ for those of us not focusing on
the Jamesian tradition.
Marsha replied:
The meaning may or not be obvious, and ... as I suggested such a citing could
be misconstrued as putting the MoQ within a Jamesian tradition which it isn't.
Marsha replied:
I've never thought that RMP's statements needed to be reinforced by a quote by
James. Maybe you can explain why I should care about these quotes,..
dmb says:
Like i said already, "I can hardly believe that you're being sincere about
this, Lucy".
Either you are willing and able to use the work of other thinkers to further
your understanding of the MOQ or you are not.
I can't persuade you to care about James's ideas because ideas are the only
means of persuasion. You'll find the similarities helpful and illuminating or
you won't. Pirsig's own comparisons haven't persuaded you to care about James
either, so how can I? You can lead a horse to water but then she's on her own.
It's too confining. It's too perplexing. It's unnecessary. It's not explained
well enough. It could be misconstrued.
These are not reasons. They're just lame excuses and rude dismissals. Thanks
for reminding me what you really are so quickly and vividly.
