Hi John
I can see that the divine wind appears also in the kitchen with a 7-year
old boy who must believe in victory, he must believe that the served
stew really *is* food to be able to eat it.
Just some fact and figures to understand the proportions:
Price is an everlasting, perpetually changing pattern. (1 st price goes
to .. Marsha!)
One person need about 2 500 Kcal food per day.
There are 6.7 billion people on earth today so they need 7 100 TWh
energy food per year.
This is, compared to oil, equivalent to 12 million barrels per day or 35
500 TWh per year.
Today we are producing 84 million barrels of oil per day on earth.
Food production takes about 5 kcal energy to produce 1 kcal food,
(farming, storage, processing, cooling, packaging and transport)
This means that 60 million barrels of oil per day is used for food
production.
Oil energy can be exchanged with the same amount of nuclear or clean
energy. 60 mb/d is about the energy from 7 100 nuclear plants.
Scientist. forecast that there will be 9 billion people on earth 2030.
We will then need the energy from 9 550 nuclear plants or oil eqivalents
for food production only.
Meanwhile, the sun is flooding our planet with energy 15 000 times more
than we can get from oil and nukes together and most of the sunshine is
cooled away by nuclear electricity and wasted.
Why?
I think its mostly a matter of price. If you should replace the energy
produced from oil with human labor you will need a lot of money. 1
gallon oil is about 35 KWh energy. 1 days hard work is about 0.5 Kwh. So
1 gallon of oil replaces 70 payed workers for 1 day!
Electric energy from the sun production costs about the double of oil or
coal produced electricity. Solar cells will be cheaper to produce when
its produced in bigger volumes.
If the price of oil is doubled or more, electricity from sun energy
plants will make profit. The price of oil can rise to 500 USD/barrel,
five times of today, it is still very cheap compared to human labor (or
horses). But this will not happen as when the prize of oil reaches
150-200 USD/barrel, giant alternative energy production will fill up the
gap. Texas will be able to make money from their deserts. Buy a desert
(near the grid) and get rich...
