dmb to Andre:

Isn't it interesting how this situation parallels the larger philosophical
problem that Pirsig sets his sights upon. When reason dominates and
abstractions rule, we value symbols more than the actualities they represent.
The fact that this extends to economics seems to show that we are consistent in
our foolishness.

Andre:
Both ZMM and LILA are expressing the dismay/disillusionment and intestinal
fortitude giving rise to this state of affairs with which Pirsig attacked the
subject/object, substance centered metaphysics, just as Ken Wilber evokes the
term 'flatland' to express this state of affairs, equally aggressive and at the
same time expressing understanding by placing it within, almost inevitable,
developments of Quality manifesting itself... in time.

Flatland...subject/object...no depth. Yes, we are fools. But we are here! And
talking about it. Each in our own fashion trying to (re)integrate morality with
reason and abstractions of all sorts. Big job. Exciting events.
