Hello Ant, Thank you for intrest in the philosophic question, it is an interesting topic. My initial response to the question of what makes for a first class reader is having a love for the written word, but I suspect it goes deeper in the love for story and tales and the value of the mythos, but, one must have the techne of a practiced fluency in order to enjoy that well told mythos so that one forgets the written words and experiences the tale being told wether that tale is well told or not. Bad writing, poor grammer, unclear use of words fail to evoke that illusion effectively poor technique force the words to the fore front of attention and neglect the story wether the story is good or not.
What makes for a first class writer is the appreciation of a first class reader the two go hand in hand, kind of like a genius is only a genius when the culture values their accomplishments.
