Platt and the rest of the gang: It feels like we're getting too far away from "Lila". I hope a new thread starts soon. ( Tested myself and am a Idealist couselor. Think it was iNFj? In any case, the site said such a result was rare, one in fifty. Should I feel "special" or just lonely?) Been watching the discussion on bikes and Zen, and when Platt sympathetically added his watercoloring experience to the debate I just had to jump in. Splash! I try to cultivate and absolutely treasure those moments when "I" disappear. I have a recurring conversation with a friend of mine. Every time we get together we add to the list of ways you can "get into the zone", as he calls it. He's very physical and so his contributions to the list usually include things like rock climbing, skiing, long hikes and other outdoor activities. My choices are usually more introverted. Chess, films and plays, all kinds of art and just plain sitting are things that get me "into the zone". To be fair, I guess the "zone" is only zen-like. It's a natural inclination we all have but most folks in the West don't follow and cultivate it like a Buddhist monk would. In those moments one can "feel" the illusion of subject and object melt away. There is no "me" and my opponent, there is only chess as a verb. There's no "me on the "rock", there is just climbing. There is no "me" and "my thoughts", just thinking. In each case "I" disappear. Its always good to be back, but its great to be gone. It feels like what the bug in the sock must have felt like. Remember that image from Lila? He described how switching outlooks from SOM to MOQ was like the sock being turned inside out. The bug still walked over the same territory, but the musty darkness was gone. He experienced the same lint and terrycloth world, but now there was fresh air and sunshine. Wanna come outside and play?!
