Roger and squad, Roger says: In fact, I suspect that we are getting into the DQ/ sq split that creates the universe through the quality event. There is something immense here that I sense, but can't quite explain.......... Clark says: Roger, that is what we have been talking about all weekend. In my view the universe has been created by Quality (read dynamic quality and static quality) right from the start. Roger writes: believe it is all good now. There will always be conflicting forces and levels, and there will always be nothing but pure undifferentiated quality. Both are necessary. One is DQ, the other is sq. Together they form the quality event. Their interaction and dance create the reality called Lila. The dance becomes more complex and dynamic and freer, but it is all quality now, and it will be all quality tomorrow too. Clark writes: When we reach the level of sentience, when human consciousness can influence the operation of Quality (both Dq and Sq) then it becomes possible for evil to exist due to the operation of DQ and SQ. Pirsig himself implies this with his idea of different "Truths". Quality can be good or evil or all shades in between when it applies to sentience. Roger: I think "guided " implies a distinct goal, and it implies a distinct dualistic "guider". I would just say we are evolving. Clark writes: In my view looking at Quality as the force that directs the assimilation of the possibilities that exist in the universe at any given time does not imply a goal toward which all is heading. A universe with a fairly high level of energy will eventually be trying all of the possibilities that exist because of the flux of energy. As more possibilities arise due to the increasing complexity of the universe then more pathways will be available. In many cases there will be more than one pathway for a given set of possibilities. Increasing complexity will eventually make the universe so complex that it will seem mystical to us and we will have no hope of being able to piece together the trail of evolution. There will be a multitude of outcomes available. There is not a "guider", there is only possibility and energy and time and space and gravity. Lithien, With regard to "guidance" at the sentient level of Quality, I don't think it would be correct to look at it as "guidance".I view it more as a generally rising level of ethics in the world that, due to the high level of intercommunication, gets communicated and accepted. Look at the computer. If everybody in the world were on the internet we would be able to quickly communicate with any one of six or seven billion people. What is this going to lead to in the next hundred years? It staggers me to think about it. One thing for sure, the world is going to change rapidly.
