Actually, I think Rich and I are thinking that Pirsig is doing just what you
warn against. Did you see Rich's original quotes? It is Pirsig who said free
will is a property isolated to "living beings". As for a level being more
free, I would say that a pattern is more free per the MOQ based on its DQ.
Since higher level patterns are more dynamic per RMP, then the contradiction
is his, not ours wouldn't you say?
