yes. ladder. good analogy. similar to the zen "finger pointing at
the moon" (zen is the moon, the books on zen are the finger)...we
sometimes we get too busy looking at the finger, we don't see the
moon.
also, the comment about comedy writing was very familiar....most
performers i know call it the back burner approach to art. work on an
idea and then forget about it for a bit...eventually it'll come to a
boil.
