I've searched through Lila and can't find where Pirsig mentions either 
Ghandi or King. Can you point me to the reference you have in mind?

Incidentally, you're discovery of a connection between Jefferson's "life, 
liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and the MOQ was positively brilliant. 
It's a great example of how, by following Horse's suggestion to "reason 
from the main principles of the MOQ" we can begin to produce the 99% 
of what Pirsig feels he missed. You've filled in at least one percent IMHO.
