What is so special about the use of nuclear weapons at Hiroshima or Nagasaki ?

We did kill a lot of people almost simultaneously and over a very short
period of time after the detonation, but does the number of victims and time
involved make the moral question any different than that involved in killing
one person very slowly ?

We did use cutting-edge technology, but does that make the moral question
different than that involved in killing a person with a rock ?
