Hi Moq members,
As promised and in addition to what I wrote earlier
about Sloterdijk en Riet-
dijk and also as a follow up for the post which I
sended to Dan Glover last
Saturday here is the issue I wanna talk you all
about.
Dan wrote, as for morals being memes it would seem
that this line of rea-
soning undermines what the Moq is all about. I from
my side of the water
here, I am in the humour of opposition on this
one.
Morals are not memes, but memes ( as those neural
info- blocks) has a
lot to do with the moral consequences of our
actions.
If memes were us_ than we have no free will, just
an illusion of. The conse-
quence for this line of thinking is obvious_
everyone is dismissed from its
own responsibility, what in the world of today
would be disasterious.
But, as the Moq stands for Quality and for patterns
of Value as the bias
for its existence, it can 't deny that morals are
patterns of Value and that
those aren 't the same everywhere at anytime and
change during the
times. What 200 years ago was taboo is nowadays
taken from granted,
that kind of stuff.
But, on the other hand, I don 't think Pirsig and
anyone on this list has the
intention to go around in endless circles, that is
to talk about Pirsig' writing
for eternity without adding some new issues and
relevancies.
After all, a Metaphysics of Quality is not yet
common knowledge...
As a memetisist I follow the evolution of the mind
at close range, that is
I am interested for whatever reason people change
their point of view; change
their opinions. Also, in the same line of duty
here, I feel that the mind ( or
its memes whereout its consist/ or the patterns of
Value wherein it moves
itself) is breaking away from what I should call
collective lines of thinking_
religions, ideologies, politics and all sort of
that kind of stuff is changed
into personal, individual patterns of Value. Each
of us, can in the democra-
tic line- up of our society do what he/ she
wants.
Earlier on abortion was taboo_ memes and patterns
of Value held up the
religious, social and cultural habits and traits.
With the arrival of new tech-
nologies and with a better understanding of the
human body restrictions
upon abortion were disconnected from their
religious, social and cultural
backgrounds.
New ideas, new memes and new patterns of Value took
over and in the
light of such a way of thinking I place nowadays
Sloterdijk, Rietdijk and
for what it is worth myself.
What in the ' 40 was seen as Nazi- Socialism, and
true is was, is in our
times stuff for discussion. What the Nazi 's did
with disabled/ crazy people
was absolutely wrong, but such things are coming
back to us, as if they
were part of our individuality. We have the right
to abort our child, we have
the right to kill ourselves. We are giving the
choise to choose our own pat-
terns of Value along the lines of our own
neurobiology.
What we ever see fit as a pattern of Value will be
giving to us as a right
for doing so.
Such a radical way of thinking is maby for many not
acceptable and I
understand that, but you see, we evolve all the
time, standing still is
going backwards_ that is conservatism where the
idea should be progress,
make way for new ideas, for improvement, for a
better Quality.
In the line of such a way, the next example is
perfect. Here you see,
evolution of the mind, evolution of Quality at
work, I should say at last,
here people choose for Quality, backed up by
lines of thinking which
I see as new formed neural connections. Here are
new patterns of Quality
formed along lines of the moral consequences
concerning the implications
of the way we think about human
behavior.
<< Paris,
Boy receives compensation because he was not
aborted.
A 17 years old heavily disabled boy has been giving
the right to ask for
compensation because he was put into life instead
of being aborted.
The French upper- judge ruled that way. The judges
felt that the doctors
had to prevent the boy 's birth.
Nicolas Perruche, the boy, is mute, almost blind,
mentally deranged and
feels most of the time pain.
His mother got the German measles during her
pregnancy, but that was
not noticed by the doctors. Therefor the parents
could not decide to abort
or not. If they were told their child would be
disabled they would surely have
decided to abort the foetus.
The court ruled_
" The mistakes committed by the doctors has denied
Ms. Perruche the right
to choose for abortion and in that way to stop the
birth of a disabled child. "
Of course, the legal and ethical implications of
such a ruling are far- reaching,
but IMO that does not counter- balance the benefits
in the long term.
Here we are on the eve for creating new patterns of
Value, new memes are
added, new technologies are used, new neural
connections are made, we
do evolve that way and what opponents say about the
ruling is IMO ( we have
to stay alert anyway) excuse me,
bullshit.
Our memes, our mind, our patterns of Value are
giving us a sense of respon-
sibility. In order to give them justice, I know a
strange expression, we have
to live by those responsibilities, that makes us
human...
All the rest is still IMO " old thinking ",
are ways to constrain the individual, we are all people and if we have decent
manners to end any suffering we must take
them with both hands...people who have for what
reason objections for
such a Quality, well like Rietdijk said, I doubt
your state of mind...
With no offense to anyone,
Regards,
Kenneth
