Yes. In the  SODV paper Pirsig points to Northrup's 
"undifferentiated aesthetic continuum" as being an acceptable  
description of Quality. But, I agree with you that much art 
appreciation is based on recognition of 'higher order' (more 
complex) patterns. Hearing 'Night and Day" played on the piano 
from sheet music is less aesthetically satisfying than listening to 
an Errol Garner jazz rendition. Would you agree that in either case 
the aesthetic experience occupies a higher place in the MOQ than 
the intellectual level?
