hi ROG
hi everyone.
ROG:
Sorry guys, but I HAVE to jump in.
Richard:
No worries, your input is welcome.
ROG
1) First, could you all define your terms? What exactly is society and what is
intellect? Be specific. I do not see that the two of you have even reached a
consensus on the terms. Richard is considering economics, politics and law as
intellectual patterns.
Richard
My definitions are to be included in the next mail i send to Dan (once i get rid of
this headache :o) ).
4) Similarly, Richard suggests that those without cobblestone drives and SUV's get
sent to insane asylums. Who does this "locking up"? Who "sends you away"? If the MOQ
teaches anything , it is that our freedom doesn't depend upon these things, NOR does
it depend upon their absence. They are just
static patterns of value.
Richard
I think my comments have been taken too seriously. I was simply trying to indicate
that a rejection of civilisations goals often leads to retribution from society/the
intellect. the point i was trying yo make is in line with what Pirsig says on p254 of
ZAMM; [ad-libbing] the world is made up of analogues, refuse to accept these analogues
and you get put in an asylum. you're not going to disagree with that are you?
with regard to the freedom being key point, please see my reply to Dan (when i write
it). In future I'll be more careful with my sarcasm, i wasn't REALLY saying that
those who don't by big cars etc. are locked up. I apologise.
ROG
But then again, I am often wrong, so I apologise in advance for being so cynical of
all the cynicism. Please load your guns and shoot back with both barrels!
Richard:
I'm probably more in the wrong than you are so maybe i shouldn't reply at all. how
does it go again? two wrongs don't make a right! Maybe that should say "two
observations of low quality don't make an observation of high quality"... Doesn't have
the same ring to it, huh?
Rog
PPS -- I am starting to think that most of the criticisms in this forum against
society are themselves more social than intellectual. But then again......
Richard
Not sure if this is directed at me, but i hope you'll find my definitions helpful when
i get round to writing them down.
Thanks for input, i enjoyed your mail very much
Richard
