[Kevin] The truth is not out there. But looking for truth out there is the only way to discover truth. Agree? Disagree? Why? Why not? [Case] Perhaps truth is inside and we look to the outside for validation. [Kevin] I think of validation as something done after the fact. Were I work we validate software and automated manufacturing processes, e.g., CNC equipment. The software is coded and the equipment is tooled and fixtured and only after these steps have been taken is the process validated. [Case] Or it could be that what you describe is the internal processing. Validation really doesn't occur until customers install and run the software in the world outside. [Kevin] The processing is both internal and external. But it starts with seeking answers externally. It end with the realization that the answers aren't out there. This realization is nothing less than transformative. For me, Pirsig's description of Quality fits my understanding of ultimate truth. "[It] is not objective, he said. It doesn't reside in the material world." And "[it] is not subjective, he said. It doesn't reside merely in the mind." For me, these "things" (e.g., quality, truth, meaning, love happiness, etc.) are found in relationships.
