Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (born 11 November 1922 - died 11
April 2007)
American writer famous for his imaginitive satires.

Some good quotes from Kurt:

"We're terrible animals. I think that the Earth's immune system is
trying to get rid
of us, as well it should."

On Humans, in an appearance on The Daily Show (September 2005)

1...."I have wanted to give Iraq a lesson in democracy-because we're
experienced with it,
you know. And, in democracy, after a hundred years, you have to let your
slaves go.
And, after a hundred and fifty years, you have to let your women vote.
And, at the
beginning of democracy, is that quite a bit of genocide and ethnic
cleansing is quite
okay. And that's what's going on now."

2. "The only difference between [George W.] Bush and [Adolf] Hitler is
that Hitler was elected."

3. If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph:
THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED
FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD
WAS MUSIC

4."A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love
whoever is around to be loved."

5."Every passing hour brings the Solar System forty-three thousand miles
closer to Globular Cluster
M13 in Hercules- and still there are some misfits who insist that there
is no such thing as progress."

6."Sometimes I think it is a great mistake to have matter that can think
and feel. It complains so.
By the same token, though, I suppose that boulders and mountains and
moons could be accused of
being a little too phlegmatic."

7."The worst thing that could possibly happen to anybody would be to not
be used for anything by
anybody. Thank you for using me, even though I didn't want to be used by
anybody."

8. "Say what you will about the sweet miracle of unquestioning faith, I
consider a capacity for it terrifying and absolutely vile."

9. "Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly; Man got to sit and wonder 'why,
why, why?' Tiger got to sleep,
bird got to land; Man got to tell himself he understand."

10.The visitor from outer space made a serious study of Christianity, to
learn, if he could, why
Christians found it so easy to be cruel. He concluded that at least part
of the trouble was
slipshod storytelling in the New Testament. He supposed that the intent
of the Gospels was
to teach people, among other things, to be merciful, even to the lowest
of the low.
But the Gospels actually taught this:
Before you kill somebody, make absolutely sure he isn't well connected.
So it goes.
