[Krimel] Mark, welcome to the MoQ. If ever a group needed a psychiatrist this is it.
[Mark] The Holographic Principle in physics holds that the information in any space (closed or open) fundamentally "lives" on the 2D boundary of that 3D space. It had its origins in the theory of black holes, and was later generalized to a universal and a general principle. [Krimel] I have to say this holographic principle is not really making sense to me. What do you mean that the information about the interior "lives" on the 2D surface? How for example is information about the yolk of an egg rendered on the shell? [Mark] I am much more familiar with Whitehead's metaphysics than Persig's. I think the two are compatable. [Krimel] Andrew Sneddon, a philosopher at Ottawa University made some the connections explicit in his master's thesis. It is available at: http://robertpirsig.org/SneddonThesis.htm [Mark] In Whiteheadean metaphysics, the "satisfaction" occurs at the level of the "actual entity," creating "societies" of actual occasions, although these societies can also be viewed as higher order "actual occasasions" in a hierarchy that leads to the "organism." [Krimel] Any idea why Whitehead felt the need to explain ongoing creation instant by instant? It would seem that beyond the initial mystery of the Big Bang and the creation of space/time things roll along pretty smoothly. [Mark] Eternal objects exist in a timeless, Platonic realm, in Whitehead's metaphysics. [Krimel] Whitehead made no bones about his love of Plato and identified God's primordial nature with the Platonic forms. Would you say his system offers any convincing reasons to adopt a belief in either as "real"? With regard to your paper I have a whole lot of questions. First this holographic principle is regarded as speculative even as physics why would it be less so as psychology or theology? It seems you are invoking it to account for Universal Consciousness. Why do you think this needs to be explained? Consciousness seems to be a relatively recent development in this region of space and time. Why the need for it permeate the universe? moq_discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
