Ever seen a person in peril, and all the strangers that will come to their rescue. Even when those individual are risking their lives to save others. The reason for the post is we are always talking about good and evil, and the source of those two, and the question: Is evil simply the lack of good, or is it its own animal. Yesterday's story ( and discussion here) about the crime is cyber space really begged a few answers. Answers about society, answers about the moral code and social structure, answers about where we are heading. Are we socially better off than when we were 100 or 200 years ago? Yesterday I got to take my 5 years old to the local water-park, and here is what I saw on first impression. The human aspect. Tattoos Large tattoos Prison Tattoos Gang Tattoos Large people Extra large Obese people Foul Language (to me) Bad grammar Junk food More junk food Sodas and lots of it Doughnuts When my eyes and brain adjusted, some positive aspects start appearing Family Units (in this day of high divorce rates) Extended families Families with a matriarch or patriarch Social preening Social feeding 2 people reading a book A kid eating a banana (between bites of potato chips) His brother having an apple Someone reading a book
Well that brought on more questions. We are hard wired to eat and provide food, but the quality of the food is in question here. Is this where that layer of Good, Noble, and Quality comes in.? To hone that basic instinct in us and make us survive better. Biology says to us, Eat. You don't know where and when your next meal is going to be. Technology says here is a bag of chips, and there is more where that came from. Biology says I have had it with this bunch. The option is to attack with bare hands, a club or a stone. Technology says here is an automatic weapon. Biology says you have to be smart, fit, fast, work hard to survive. Technology says here is a welfare check. The questions are: Has technology worked against Biology? Are social skills lagging behind modernization? Have we interfered with the survival of the fittest? While certain groups seem to function well on the basic level, the lack of refinement and enlightenment will hinder social advancement. I.e. the use of the N word for endearment, or using the F word 5 times in a 20 word sentence. Please understand, my observations are general. Yes I am painting with a very broad brush. People should be free to do as they wish, but is there such thing as public etiquette and guidelines for a place where families gather? I have nothing against people with tattoos. But is there a code somewhere about displaying your prison tattoos in public.
