Well, I think Pirsig answers this question directly in Lila (paperback, page 253): "From a static point of view socialism is more moral than capitalism." With the election of our next President just around the corner, the internet is literally overflowing with political rhetoric. Obviously the topic of democracy gets mentioned. I've noticed several people in the political newsgroups point out that America is not a TRUE democracy (these people tend to be pro-socialism, pro-communism, pro-anarchy, etc). America is, in fact, a Republic. But democracy is a fundamental part of our structure. America ceases to be America without democracy. The whole purpose of this Focus Group is to discuss the MOQ, and if you ask me, I'd say America is the highest Quality country on earth. Could it be better? Sure. But it's the best the world has ever seen. So yes, democracy is the most moral option for the q-social level. Look at the biological level. The majority of the cells usually decide things in a democratic manner, don't they? Going up a level, even our hardwired intellect runs on a democratic software program.
