Fred and I just published the paper:
Mitteroecker P, Bookstein FL (in press) The Ontogenetic Trajectory of
the Phenotypic Covariance Matrix, with Examples from Craniofacial Shape
in Rats and Humans. Evolution. DOI: 10.1111/j.1558-5646.2008.00587.x
It introduces a metric distance measure for covariance matrices and an
according space of covariance matrices, in which ontogenetic and
evolutionary trajectories of covariance structures can be studied. I
