There is an excellent package called Power and Precision. You can get a
free trial download at http://www.power-analysis.com/power_analysis.htm,
but I recommend buying it just for the booklet that comes with it. The
web site itself probably has good stuff on it. The explanation of what
you are doing, and why you are doing it, is really terrific. The
program itself is very easy to use.
There are also calculators on the web, just google "sample size
calculator" but I haven't specifically tested them.
