Dear morphometricians, once more, Id like to have your help and ask you some questions: 1) Is there anybody who has experience with landmark digitization directly on living human faces? 2) Could you please let me know about papers on human face variation? And also on sexual dimorphism of the face/skull in humans, please. 3) Analyses of symmetric objects with small asymmetries (human face with landmarks digitized on both sides). I guess that there are several approaches that can be used if one is not interested in quantifying the asymmetries. a) Raw data on both sides can be analysed (GPA etc.) directly. b) One of the two sides can be chosen and only those landmarks analysed (e.g., only the left side plus, of course, landmarks on the symmetry plane). c) One side can be reflected and the average between the two sides used for the analysis. In order to avoid redundancy of variables, its possibly not bad to work only one side (say, the left side or the average of left and right sides). I would perform all analyses on just that side but I was wondering whether, for illustrating results (shapes predicted by PCs etc.), I can use a perfectly symmetric configuration where landmarks on the right side are simply those on the left side after reflection. Is that possible? Does it make sense to use just one side for statistical analyses (no variable redundancy) and display results using that side plus the landmarks obtained by mirror reflection of the symmetric landmarks of that side?
