Hello
It´s been a long time since I posted here. My request is slightly
off-topic, but not that much. I want to include a good digital camera
for a forthcoming grant proposal here at our lab, and I could really
use some advice on any model/brand that any of you have recently
purchased, specially regarding distortion in macro mode. I used a
Coolpix 995 (not mine...) during the data collection for my PhD
research, but these things are ceased to be produced so fast that once
you find a good camera you can´t recommend it to anyone six months
later because it´s not for sale anymore! I realize that the best
choice would be a digital slr with a good quality macro lens,
unortunately this still has a prohibitive cost for us. My concern is
that several advanced point and shoot digital camera (or whatever they
call them) have the macro position in the wide angle end of the zoom,
resulting in quite some distortion, which can be quite harmful for
later morphometric analyses... We work with small rodent and marsupial
skulls, some like 2 cm long, thus the need for a macro/close-up
option.
Anyone out there could point me to a parituclar model they like?
Thanks in advance
Diego
