-------- Original Message -------- Subject: 3D scanners Xystum and Mephisto Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2008 20:34:18 -0800 (PST) From: Alistair Evans <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: morphmet <[email protected]> Hi everyone, I am looking to buy two new 3D scanners to set up a scanning lab, one high resolution (point spacing down to 10 microns) and one medium resolution (point spacing down to 50 microns). These will mostly be for scanning mammal teeth of all sizes, but with a view to other morphologies as well. There are two machines I have been focusing on as being the best in their price range (around US$20-40,000). I was wondering if anyone has had experience with either of these two scanners. Xystum - point laser scanner on CNC machine, point spacing down to 10 microns. http://www.xystum.it/laser.html Mephisto Extreme Micro (made by 4Ddynamics, distributed by Inition in the UK) - structured light scanner using LCD projector and high resolution still and video cameras. http://www.thinglab.co.uk/scanning_product.php?URL_=product_digiscan_4dd_mephisto&SubCatID_=31 I have had some demo scans done for me on each of them, and they look pretty good, but I am interested in anyone with hands-on experience and knows about their usability and accuracy. I can provide more information for anyone interested. Best wishes, Alistair Evans -- _________________________________________________ Alistair Evans, PhD Research Fellow School of Biological Sciences Monash University VIC 3800 Australia - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Phone +61 3 990 53110 Fax +61 3 990 55613 Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://users.monash.edu.au/~arevans/ _________________________________________________ -- Replies will be sent to the list.
