Subject: Software for measuring surfaces on CT scans

Dear Morphmet members,
I have never worked with 3D reconstructions and my question regards as
to what software to use. I plan to measure surfaces (drosophila eye
area) and count features (individual ommitidia on eyes) from microCT.
Can anyone point me in the direction of any software that is capable of
making such measurements (surface area measures of surfaces in 3d and
counting features) from CT scans? Are there any data formats that are
particularly amenable for such measurements? Any help would be appreciated.
best,
Saad Arif
