Thanks Dennis. I tried an older version of Java 3D (version 1.4.0) but ran into the same problem. I suspect it might be a problem with either 3D or JRE, in which case means that sorting things out will be quite time-consuming. M_vis was a nifty program that allowed one to visualize wireframe in a 3D environment as it is being constructed. I suppose it's time to look elsewhere.

The "caused by" line suggests a Java 3D problem. Unfortunately, there
has been a hiatus and, now, new release of java 3d that might not be
compatible. Make sure you get the libraries from an older version that
is compatible with that version of m_vis.
