Subject: Landmark Placement in Geomorph
To: Morphmet <morphmet@morphometrics.org>

I am trying to use the R geomorph package to place landmarks on a 3D object.

I read the ply image in fine and the object displays.

I use the mouse to draw a square around the location where I want to place a landmark, or "vertex" as it is described in the instructions. A landmark get placed, but it jumps through the object. It seems that the "vertex point" assumes a position that is on the surface of the object directly opposite to where I would want it positioned. So, I am having trouble placing these points at useful landmark positions. I am similarly unclear how drawing a square would allow placement of the landmark with any precision.

Perhaps the problem is that I do not fully understand what is meant by "vertex." I have been taking it to be a synonym for landmark. Operationally that appears to be incorrect, but I do not know how to proceed.

Any advice would be appreciated.
