Hi Don,
Thanks for getting in touch and I'm more than willing to share! I'm in the very
early stages of my study so not too much to say at the moment, but the idea is
to investigate cranio-facial variation within a local population of modern
humans to try and aid understanding/interpretation of intra vs inter specific
variation in fossil contexts. I'm planning to digitise at least 250 crania from
a local Bristol population who died in the 1700's. As my time will be a bit
limited, the Principle Variance analysis on an existing dataset will hopefully
identify landmarks that are particularly good predictors of others/don't offer
significant additional information and if so I can make an educated choice for
a really informative subset.  A couple of people have got in touch with
suitable data which is great, so also more than happy to let you know how it
turns out.

I'd be really interested to know more about your research if you could send me
a link? Thanks again for getting in touch.

Jo

Jo,
As I use the MicroScribe on studying human and proto-human skulls, I would like
to hear more about your study, assuming you are willing to share.
Please contact me off MorphMet at

Good luck.

 Hi all,

I'm a MSc Palaeobiology student at the University of Bristol and I'm about to
start a 3-D Geometric Morphometric study on a sample of modern human skulls,
using a microscribe.

I'm working with a statistician to explore how to minimise information loss if
using a carefully-selected subset of landmarks. To this end we'd like to carry
out a procedure called Principle Variables on an existing dataset of 3-D
co-ordinates. I wondered if anyone's aware of any freely available datasets we
could run an analysis on or if anyone would be able/willing to share raw data
with me. The outcome might be quite useful in general.

Thanks and best wishes

Jo
