Dear Morphmet subscribers

A course entitled "Analysis of Organismal Form" (BL 3111) will be taught
in the second half of the first semester in the coming academic year (8
November - 17 December 2004).

This course is a brief introduction to morphometrics, for advanced
undergraduate and graduate students, and will be taught via the Web. The
intention is to make this course available for students at the
University of Manchester and throughout the world on a yearly basis.
This year, the course will be taught for the first time in this form,
and as this is a 'test run' in some ways, a limited number of
participants from outside the University of Manchester can participate.
There is no fee for this first year, although there will probably be a
fee in future years. In exchange, I'd like to get some regular feedback
from you on the materials and format of the course.

The course is equivalent to 18 lectures, and in addition, students are
expected to do some extra work and to participate in discussions via the
course bulletin board.

There will be no formal examination or certification by the University
of Manchester to participants from outside the University. I will send a
letter to those participants, confirming that they have taken the
course, but this does not constitute an official certification by the
University.

If you want to sign up for this course, please send me an E-mail
containing *all* of the following information by September 30, 2004:
1) your name
2) your E-mail address
3) your postal address
4) your level of study (undergraduate student, postgraduate student,
etc.)
5) your institution (university, research institute)
6) a brief reason for taking the course
7) an indication whether you would be able to take the course if there
were a fee of 100, 150, 200 (in future years)
8) an indication whether you would be interested in formal examination
and certification of the course, even if that would require a higher
fee.

A limited number of participants will be selected from the responses. I
will notify you of the outcome by E-mail in October.

Best wishes,
Chris Klingenberg
