Thank you everyone who chimed in on reflections.  The spirit of 
collegiality, honesty, shared experiences, and focus on getting better makes 
this site  a cornerstone of my instruction.

The minute I read your comments about not assessing/grading strategy use but 
rather the resulting comprehension, I thought OF COURSE.  It is one of those 
"forest for the trees" kind of things.

I do see that assessing the strategy use to see its impact on comprehension 
is key.  And in the end it is the good ole element of TIME that holds me 
prisoner.  I could spend every day for six weeks modeling strategies, 
practicing, checking for understanding and reading reading reading and feel 
that the time was well spent and we were on the money in our effots AND 
there would be no grades.  Yuck.  Just gotta deal with that one.  Back to 
the drawing board.  Gina
