Carol,
As I do a read aloud and record my thinking on a T-chart, I code my  thinking 
. I think this is important for the kids to see because they see that  good 
readers don't just use one strategy at a time. I am always telling the kids  
when we are concentrating on a strategy so we can get better at it but good  
readers use multiple strategies at a time. i think they get it because I'm  
starting to see a lot of this in their response notebooks.
