I'm winning the war on guided reading times as well! We're sticking with 30 
minutes for now and not dropping down to 20!

Kristin,

In the upper grades, I have found it takes 40 minutes to run one guided reading 
group, never mind two.  As far as the conferencing goes, maybe they could 
conference 2 days and take a guided reading group 3 days?  I know that's a 
compromise.  Redbrick Publishers makes fantastic high interest, low readability 
books on a variety of current topics.  The High Five collection is their high 
interest-low readability product.  Check out their website 
www.redbricklearning.com and search for the High Five collection.
