In America we educate everyone, this is not true in other countries. We need to stop comparing ourselves. Additionally, we need to stop believing that if every child doesn't go to college that we have failed. Not everyone wants to go or should go to college. Our economy cannot support everyone being college educated. I am not sure what the answer is to getting students at grade level. I am not really a fan of young children attending formal schooling, but so many of my students come unprepared even in kindergarten. No one has read to them, or helped them to learn what we might consider the basics-things that our mothers probably taught us. Education is really not seen as important by most of my students, and frankly by many of their parents. Some days I feel like I am just showing up for myself and no one else.
