I'm new at strategies and lurk and read almost all the posts.  So I'm 
jumping in and here's my questions to the poem

What is her connection to Chicago?
Why does the author mention other major cities in the U.S.?
Why wouldn't she ask to call her brother in Gary (IN I presume)?
Why is the author comparing Chicago to Gary?
