Hi, all, I work with teachers in a high performing district--some of our schools score a combined 90% total reading on our state tests. However, some of our test data points to a decline from 3rd to 6th grade. I'd like your help, here.
One of our inititiaves is differentiation which occurs through a balanced literacy approach using lit circles, reading workshop, think alouds and guided reading. However, we have never really discussed vertical alignment of strategies. We did purchase the comprehension toolkit for all teachers in grades 3-6, but the thinking remains the same from third to sixth. Other than using more complex text, do any of your districts outline what each of the strategies might look like at each grade level? For example, how is connections different at 1st when compared to 6th? I'm just wondering if this is possible? Thanks for any help you can offer.
