K is a bit more complicated as children are not necessarily expected to read conventionally. For Ks we look at conventional of print, knowledge of books and stories, alphabet knowlege, phonemic awareness, meaning vocabulary (e.g. PPVT), listening comprehension, and basic decoding/phonic skills. Admittedly, this will take more than three minutes but it does provide a good sense of how the children are developing in key areas of that are necessary for ongoing growth in literacy. I see your three minute assessment starts at grade one. It is taking me about 3 WEEKS a card marking, not 3 minutes, to do the assessment required by our district for each child. Any suggestions for a quick assessment for kinders?
