I hear your frustration. The kids would be better with you than pulled out
with an IA.

Well, here is an avenue for you. We have been told that you can't
discriminate against special ed students because of their disability. Our
school system
attorney says so. SO...as reading specialist, I have to include students
with IEP's if my program will benefit them. Our district no longer says "no
double dipping." It is discrimination for students to be denied the services
of
the reading specialist because they already have special ed.

I now work with the special educator and include students with IEP's in my
intervention. That could also be frustrating to classroom teachers if it
meant that I had to cut my caseload so we regroup our kids for one hour a day
and
I have a special educator, me and a general educator working with 15-18 kids
in targeted, specific interventions. Keep up the good fight and don't get
discouraged...and please don't feel I was on the attack here... I just feel
passionately about this group of kids and I can tell you do too.

No, they don't get any help from the reading teacher cause that's "double
dipping"
So, they get a program developed by a sped teacher but delivered by a Para
with barely a high school degree and no training in teaching reading or
understanding of miscues etc. or ability or training to deal with behavior
issues.
