I attended a summer reading institute at Teacher's College in NYC this past week and am really excited to get back to the classroom. I am considering using TC's primary assessment as an in between measure in addition to my own conference observations, guided and strategic notes, and the more formal dra.(which we are required to give three times a year.) It looks really good with a student profile (that has many subtests to quickly measure a kid's decoding and spelling abilities. Donald Baer's spelling assessment is also in there and details how to use his measue to get kids into "just right" reading groups.) as well as running records and miscue analysis. Although I have used the later elementary version of TC's reading and running record analysis I have never used the primary. The one big difference is the primary version of the running records has accompanied books. (at least two for each level) The cost of the book set is 120.00. Before I lay out my personal dollars, I wondered if any of you have tried this assessment and what your reactions to it were.... Your speedy response is greatly appreciated. Pam
