Last year we had a study group with grade 1-10 teachers (12 of them) using Mosaic of Thought. It was advertised in such a way that participants were given a choice as to how to group themselves. In the end they just all wanted to stay together which made for very rich conversations. I think we all found it a good place to start talking about comprehension strategies and teaching and learning. This year I'm starting one with only grade 1 teachers using Reading with Meaning. Some of last year's group has joined up with this one. Sorry, I don't have my little blurb handy, but it was short and referred to this as a study group looking at teaching comprehension strategies in grade 1. I mentioned the connection between Ellin Keene and Debbie Miller - I know that's one of the reasons there are some "oldies" coming back. I've found that news about these study groups travels by word of mouth. You wouldn't believe how many teachers talk about buying "Mosaic of Thought" oh yes, and actually follow through!! Good luck and provide muffins! Marg Epp Learning Support Facilitator Saskatoon, SK

What do you all think? Also, as far as starting the group. . . What do you think would be the best possible way of advertising? We all know that not every teacher is open to new ideas and I really want to present it in the best light possible.
