I would love to hear from other members about the feasibility of having 12 year olds actually write these personal essays/memoirs. Sandra Cisneros wrote those as an adult, with an adult's sensibility about reflecting on a life experience. I do not believe the average 12 year old is able to do that about life. This conversation has been beneficial to me, in that it has clarifed for me that I do not intend to continue to teach memoir to this age group. I'll continue to use the personal narrative titles, as well as the Cisneros type essays, but only ask kids to write a personal narrative and hone our writer's craft in the various traits. If some of them have an "aha" and include an anecdotal insight- I'll be thrilled. > > _________________________________________________________________ Share life as it happens with the new Windows Live.Download today it's FREE! http://www.windowslive.com/share.html?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_Wave2_sharelife_112007 _______________________________________________ Mosaic mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/mosaic_literacyworkshop.org.
