In my middle school classroom I used to have a couch until I noticed that it
was always the same "popular" kids who sat on the couch. Then I arranged a
system of who could sit on the couch what day to give everyone a chance.
Then I got arguments about how it wasn't fair because someone who should have
had the couch yesterday was absent yesterday. Eventually, I had the couch
removed.
I notice in other classrooms that it's the same people every day who get the
couch or comfy chair.
I do not want to contribute to this kind of status seating.
