I know this email was referring to actual books, but I wanted to mention a thought about motivation. I know that we all want children to have an innate desire to read and I believe all children can find books they enjoy, so I agree with someone's post about offering choices. I also think, though, that there is nothing wrong with offering a little reward. I am not sure what resources you have, but sometimes a little reward, even a small token, like a blue ribbon and certificate, might encourage students to join in the fun. One great place to go for funds is DonorsChoose.org that links schools' needs with donors who would like to provide those funds- maybe you could get a grant before summer. Finally, one last thought- where I work many parents wouldn't necessarily be willing or able to help their children in this pursuit, so maybe you could hype it up and have volunteers meet with kids at local libraries in their neighborhoods where they could get some guidance. Maybe the local librarians could help out too. Good luck. ~Kecia, 6th Grade Inclusion _______________________________________________ Mosaic mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/mosaic_literacyworkshop.org.
